Even though Barack Obama has occupied the White House for a while, it may still be too early to tell whether the renewed interest in the political process will be something we can count on going forward. The fact that we elected our first African American president was significant, but we don’t know yet whether that will be enough to keep people rallied behind President Obama and the country in general.
It would be nice if that were the case, because we’ve been divided long enough. Take for example, the plight of United States veterans. Many were wounded in American battles and after serving in a war, they sometimes came home to nearly non-existent medical care and public derision. That’s the reason I felt compelled to create some free patriotic clip art that pays tribute to veterans. This veterans clip art is just a small way we can all show our support. That show of support could mean a lot to veterans who feel their country has forgotten them. But we need to do more than just send yearly Veterans Day greeting cards. Our appreciation for them needs to be ongoing. Anyone who has fought for the country has earned it. If we don’t support them; who will?
On the other hand, every American –- not just veterans -– would benefit from America having renewed interest in unity. It would be wonderful to see people saluting American flags when on parade, because the sight of the flag moves them to express themselves. One would hope that love of country will help Americans achieve peace. But it’s up in the air whether this reunification will take place. There are some people who are having a bad reaction to the president’s actions. But that’s just our political process in action. To a certain extent, those checks and balances protect us. That’s the way it’s supposed to work anyway. The people of the U.S. will just have to see what happens.
