While suturing up a cut on the hand of a 75 year old rancher,
whose hand had been caught in the gate while working his cattle,
the doctor struck up a conversation with the old man. Eventually
the topic got around to Obama, and his being our president.

The old rancher said, “Well, ya know, Obama is just a Post Turtle.”

Now not being familiar with the term, the doctor asked,

What’s a “Post Turtle?”

The old rancher said, “When you’re driving down a country
road and you come across a fence post with a turtle balanced
on top, that’s a post turtle.”

The old rancher saw the puzzled look on the doctor’s face so
he continued to explain. “You know he didn’t get up there by
himself, he doesn’t belong up there, he doesn’t know what to
do while he’s up there, he sure as heck ain’t goin’ anywhere,
and you just wonder what kind of dumb ass put him up there in
the first place.”

Whether you are Christian or not, black or white, you owe it to yourself to read pat Boone’s commentary on our president. Obama really doesn’t understand that we are very much a Christian nation. According to wikipedia, 91% of Americans identify themselves as Christian. Yet somehow President Obama thinks we need to cater to muslims. I say we should love muslims but not change who we are because of them. My friend (the one who designed midlandtxgop.org) is muslim and he has better morals and higher standards than most Christians I know. I am certain, however, that if he was to come to America, he would never dream of demanding his muslim rights in our Christian country. I certainly would never dream of going to his country (Indonesia) and demanding my Christian rights either.

Thinking about these and other statements made by the man who wears the title of president. I keep wondering what country he believes he’s president of. In one of my very favorite stories, Edward Everett Hale’s “The Man without a Country,” a young Army lieutenant named Philip Nolan stands condemned for treason during the Revolutionary War, having come under the influence of Aaron Burr. When the judge asks him if he wishes to say anything before sentence is passed, young Nolan defiantly exclaims, “Damn the United States! I wish I might never hear of the United States again!” The stunned silence in the courtroom is palpable, pulsing. After a long pause, the judge soberly says to the angry lieutenant: “You have just pronounced your own sentence. You will never hear of the United States again. I sentence you to spend the rest of your life at sea, on one or another of this country’s naval vessels – under strict orders that no one will ever speak to you again about the country you have just cursed.” And so it was. Philip Nolan was taken away and spent the next 40 years at sea, never hearing anything but an occasional slip of the tongue about America. The last few pages of the story, recounting Nolan’s dying hours in his small stateroom – now turned into a shrine to the country he fore swore – never fail to bring me to tears. And I find my own love for this dream, this miracle called America, refreshed and renewed.

I know how blessed and unique we are. But reading and hearing the audacious, shocking statements of the man who was recently elected our president – a young black man living the impossible dream of millions of young Americans, past and present, black and white – I want to ask him, “Just what country do you think you’re president of?” You surely can’t be referring to the United States of America, can you? America is emphatically a Christian nation, and has been from its inception! Seventy percent of her citizens identify themselves as Christian. The Declaration of Independence and our Constitution were framed, written and ratified by Christians. It’s because this was, and is, a nation built on and guided by Judeo-Christian biblical principles that you, sir, have had the inestimable privilege of being elected her president. You studied law at Harvard, didn’t you, sir? You taught constitutional law in Chicago? Did you not ever read the statement of John Jay, the first Chief Justice of the Supreme Court and an author of the landmark “Federalist Papers”: ” Providence has given to our people the choice of their rulers – and it is the duty, as well as the privilege and interest of our Christian nation – to select and prefer Christians for their rulers”?

In your studies, you surely must have read the decision of the Supreme Court in 1892: “Our lives and our institutions must necessarily be based upon and embody the teachings of the Redeemer of mankind. It is impossible that it should be otherwise; and in this sense and to this extent our civilization and our institutions are emphatically Christian.” Did your professors have you skip over all the high-court decisions right up till the mid 1900′s that echoed and reinforced these views and intentions? Did you pick up the history of American jurisprudence only in 1947, when for the first time a phrase coined by Thomas Jefferson about a “wall of separation between church and state” was used to deny some specific religious expression – contrary to Jefferson’s intent with that statement? Or, wait a minute, were your ideas about America ‘s Christianity formed during the 20 years you were a member of the Trinity United Church of Christ under your pastor, Jeremiah Wright? Is that where you got the idea that “America is no longer a Christian nation”? Is this where you, even as you came to call yourself a Christian, formed the belief that “America has been arrogant”?

Even if that’s the understandable explanation of your damning of your country and accusing the whole nation (not just a few military officials trying their best to keep more Americans from being murdered by jihadists) of “not always living up to her ideals,” how did you come up with the ridiculous, alarming notion that we might be “considered a Muslim nation”? Is it because there are some 2 million or more Muslims living here, trying to be good Americans? Out of a current population of over 300 million, 70 percent of whom are Christians? Does that make us, by any rational definition, a “Muslim nation”?

Why are we not, then, a “Chinese nation”? A “Korean nation”? Even a “Vietnamese nation”? There are even more of these distinct groups in America than Muslims. And if the distinction you’re trying to make is a religious one, why is America not “a Jewish nation”? There’s actually a case to be made for the latter, because our Constitution – and the success of our Revolution and founding – owe a deep debt to our Jewish brothers. Have you stopped to think what an actual Muslim America would be like? Have you ever really spent much time in Iran? Even in Egypt? You, having been instructed in Islam as a kid at a Muslim school in Indonesia and saying you still love the call to evening prayers, can surely picture our nation founded on the Quran, not the Judeo-Christian Bible, and living under Shariah law. Can’t you? You do recall Muhammad’s directives [Surah 9:5,73] to “break the cross” and “kill the infidel”? It seems increasingly and painfully obvious that you are more influenced by your upbringing and questionable education than most suspected. If you consider yourself the president of a people who are “no longer Christian,” who have “failed to live up to our ideals,” who have been arrogant,” and might even be “considered Muslim” – you are president of a country most Americans don’t recognize.

The Obama budget: endless cash loan or lesson in vocabulary?

The Swamp recently ran an article with the headline “Obama ‘agnostic’ about deficit solutions.” Getting the tremendous federal deficit under control could easily lead to higher taxes for the middle class, but Obama has vowed not to do this. Instead of committing to one particular idea or strategy, he’s staying “agnostic” and waiting for an idea.

No taxes, no cuts?

Obama told the press we can’t simply “cut our way out of this problem.” A combination of tax spurts and cuts on Social Security and Medicare may be the road Obama travels, but he gave Bloomberg no definite indication. Again, he’s remaining “agnostic,” as politicians are wont to do when the cameras are running.

Do anything but commit

I understand political gamesmanship. I also understand that repairing something as large as our national debt is a tremendously complex task. The budget Obama proposed cuts it to $ 1.267 trillion, improving on the $ 1.56 projection, but he’s looking at $ 727 billion by 2013! Remaining agnostic won’t get you very far, as tough decisions will have to be made right away to meet a 2013 deadline. The recession has made things harder, and people are harder up for cash loans than in a while. Decide, and stick to it.

Obama ran his candidacy on the premise that America had a failed system
and that we needed change; but in this humble person’s belief, I see
this presidency promoting the most radical, left-wing government in our
history as it attaches individualism, the heart of our democracy at
every level.

We are fighting two wars, losing thousands of cherished loved ones and
crippling many more brave men and women; we have a financial crisis as
banks fail, as industries fail, as unemployment rises, creating
financial problems for states, cities and towns. We have millions
losing their homes, living in tent cities, and most who have jobs
cannot afford a home.

While this is going on our leaders in Washington keep solving these
problems with more taxes put on the backs of middle-class Americans
already struggling to meet their needs through hard work.

The Cap and Trade bill, according to the Treasury Department, will cost
$200 billion and raise average Americans’ energy bills by $1,761 yearly.

President Obama is proposing 71 different, new welfare programs at an
estimated cost of $800 billion and a projected cost over the next
decade of $10 trillion.

His administration is proposing a Value Added Tax (VAT) that in some
industrial nations is as high as 25 percent added to the cost of goods,
but not seen at the cash register when purchases are made. Along with
this tax they propose a financial transaction tax that will cost
Americans another $100 to $150 billion a year.

Taxes on soda, on health insurance, on incomes — taxes on just about
everything to share the wealth for everyone — socialism, that dreaded
word — progressive liberalism for all. Welcome to change.

The current health care program in Washington is our attempt to have
what other nations have; but in all the talk, nothing is really done
about the cost.

Germany, which has health care, taxes its citizens at the rate of 14.9
percent of income and is now facing problems to maintain this health
insurance. France has health care and taxes citizens as high as 50
percent of income to support health care and is facing problems.

It is not possible to provide health care for 30 million more
Americans, not increase the budget deficit and allow everyone with
their current insurance to experience no change. Health insurance will
create enormous tax hikes, premium costs and Medicare cuts, but no one
really talks about this.

The president has talked about the future, green energy, save the globe
and the jobs that green energy solutions will create for Americans that
will lead us down the road to new economic growth and once again a
leader of the world.

Well, Mr. Obama, the world is not waiting for us to lead this new green
energy age. The Shenyang Power Group of China will supply 240 of its
2.5 megawatt wind turbines for a 36,000-acre wind farm in West Texas.
This project will create 2,800 new jobs, 15 percent in Texas, 85
percent in China. American green energy jobs? To top this all, the wind
turbine technology China is using comes with a license from a German
company. That’s what Obama calls American leadership — some change.

I hope America is waking up. I hope America is not blinded by the
rhetoric. Failure to look at the ramifications of these proposals could
destroy what made this nation great, its philosophical principles, its
moral values, its institutions that are necessary for a nation to
flourish and the very fundamental foundations that made this the land
of the free.

Dear Honorable Senator Al Franken:

The costs proposed to be imposed on me for the new medical care plans will put me out of business!

After working 2 years for a business in rural MN, I was offered ownership of this same company (company name) in 200?. Although it required a heavy mortgage and additional heavy investment in xxxxxx compliance equipment, I acquired it. After running this company for just over six years at close to break even, the government is proposing that it will be mandatory for me to provide health care benefits for my employees. I have been trying to provide health coverage, but my company cannot afford to do so. Last year, despite having the strongest year ever, I took out just enough capital distributions to cover tax liabilities, because once again there was not enough to give myself a distribution. Preliminary data shows that this year will also show a loss, despite cutting expenses, once again preventing me from realizing a capital distribution. My salary of $66,000 is less than what I made prior to ownership.

I try to be as generous as possible to help my 50+ employees of which 15 are fulltime (this company is one of the city’s largest employers). They receive vacation time, paid time off for sick time and each may opt to contribute to a IRA (the company matches dollar for dollar up to 3% of gross) plus each of the fulltime employees has a $x0k life insurance policy. When business is slow, I try to bring in work no matter what the rate even though it might be at a loss or close to break even just to keep my employees working. I do care!

My annual payroll is estimated to be $600,000 this year (after running at over $800,000 in each of the last two years). The proposed “EXCISE TAX” would cost me $24,000 for 2009 (over $64,000 for each of the two prior years). I cannot just raise my revenue (the way government raises taxes) – my company competes with lower cost centers overseas. These foreign companies set the rates that can be competitively charged. I cannot even afford a sales manager (thus I must do this myself).

Part of the motivation for keeping this business is the value it may bring when I go to sell the company. But now I question whether it can be kept as a viable business. Even the bank has lowered my line of credit despite my excellent credit history. I don’t see a formula of activity that will increase my revenue enough to offset the additional tax expense in addition to the costs related to the increase in the minimum wage. And it certainly does not make sense for me to borrow from the bank if the company will not remain viable enough to repay any loans.

Now I need to consider shuttering the company. I have no other options. I am already squeezed and stressed enough with no reward. Now this!

I do care for my employees and do what I can for them. I need to be able to sleep at night knowing I have the funds to cover payroll and all the related taxes. I just don’t have the resources to give more than I do already.

This sensible approach will save time and money for federal investigators and prosecutors, even though some of them won’t like it. It will not, however, move Congress any closer to legalizing marijuana generally, as many of the supporters of medical marijuana desire.

The new policy was outlined in a three-page statement issued by the Justice Department. Attorney General Eric Holder issued it with a carefully balanced statement of his own: “It will not be a priority to use federal resources to prosecute patients with serious illnesses or their caregivers who are complying with state laws on medical marijuana, but we will not tolerate drug traffickers who hide behind claims of compliance with state law to mask activities that are clearly illegal.”

In Oregon, acting U.S. Attorney Kent Robinson said the new policy would not change anything here: “It doesn’t change things at all. This is entirely consistent with what the practice of this office has been.”

That’s a little confusing to understand because, as The Washington Post reported, “…repeated efforts in Congress to block federal prosecution of medical marijuana have fallen short, and the new policy was a sharp departure from that of the Bush administration, in which the Drug Enforcement Administration raided medical marijuana distributors even if the distributors appeared to be complying with state laws.”

The most probable explanation is that Oregon is too small a fish to bother frying. Most of the marijuana-related attention under Bush was focused on Oregon’s big neighbor, California.

As reported this week, Oregon has 23,873 patients with medical marijuana cards and 12,245 caregivers allowed to provide marijuana for those who can’t or don’t want to grow their own. More than 3,000 doctors signed the applications that enabled patients to obtain state cards. Yet the American Medical Association holds firm to its policy of opposing marijuana for medical purposes, a policy that has been in place since 2001.

The main beneficiaries of the new policy are likely to be the dispensaries, which California allows but Oregon does not. By one estimate, the Bush administration conducted 200 raids on California dispensaries. The U.S. Supreme Court made it clear that the government was free to enforce federal drug laws regardless of whether a state had approved a medical marijuana program.

So the primary gain achieved by the new policy will be one of administrative efficiency, saving time heretofore wasted pretending that the weak and the sick were serious criminals. Of course, some drug hounds see anenemy without distinctions.

Surprise: Anti-Jesus Pro-Allah Judge David Hamilton Will Get Senate Vote

The Washington Times just reported “a move seems to be afoot” in the Senate to allow a debate and full Senate vote on whether President Obama’s Anti-Jesus Judge David Hamilton should be confirmed to the 7th Circuit Court of Appeals.  You may remember him as the Judge who ruled it’s illegal to pray “in Jesus name” but totally legal to pray to Allah on the floor of the Indiana Legislature.  His foolish ruling in Hinrichs v. Bosma was overturned (thanks in part to our legal aid to the Indiana Attorney General).  He also ruled to hasten the abortion of unborn children, but that bad ruling was also overturned. Now Obama wants to reward Hamilton’s anti-life anti-Jesus prejudice with promotion to the same appeals court that overruled him.  

On 4 June 09, the Judiciary committee voted 12-7 along strict party lines, to forward the nomination of Judge David Hamilton, the anti-Jesus Judge, the same judge who issued controversial rulings banning public prayers offered “in Jesus name,” (but allowing prayers to Allah), and hastening the abortion of unborn children.  This vote came after we’d already sent nearly 600,000 faxes to the entire Senate opposing Hamilton, proving some Republicans listen to the voice of the people, and some Democrats remain deaf to our petitions. Now this anti-Jesus Judge Hamilton will face the full Senate, and the threat of filibuster by the pro-faith, pro-family Senator James Inhofe (R-OK).  

To stop Hamilton, we need 40 strong Senate votes to stand with Senator Inhofe, to uphold his filibuster.  If we fail, Hamilton will be promoted to the 7th Circuit Court of Appeals, the same court that overruled his aggressive, anti-life, anti-liberty decisions for years.  So we’ve identified 17 key undecided Senators, from which we need just 7 votes to successfully defeat Hamilton’s nomination, (see list below).
