3 Signs of Autism You Can’t Miss

It does seem that each year, doctors are diagnosing more kids with one form or another of autism. Autism has quite a few symptoms, and many of these overlap with other conditions, so parents with children they suspect may be autistic are advised to get a professional opinion. We’ll move on to talk more about several symptoms of autism that are seen in many children.

Facial expressions that are not normal; walking and movements that are not normal and basically unusual in nature are all commonly seen in autistic children. The autistic child usually does not respond well, or responds quite differently than the normal child. Parents often observe that their autistic children seldom smile, or express emotions in a conventional way. It’s inaccurate to think your autistic child is lacking in emotions, as if they don’t exist. They simply express their emotions differently, and it’s usually very difficult to determine the feelings that are felt at any given time. Movements that the child likes to do repeatedly, and other movements that we don’t understand and seem odd are also seen a lot.

Some of these symptoms can be quite disturbing such as engaging in self-destructive behavior. Although not found in every autistic child, some will cause themselves injury by hitting themselves, banging their heads or inappropriately playing with dangerous objects. Autistic children, therefore, need much more supervision than normal children. Sometimes medication or physical restraint is required to keep them from harming themselves. When these tendencies get out of hands and parents are overwhelmed it may become necessary to institutionalize the autistic child. Children who display such symptoms are not necessarily autistic, but they always need to be diagnosed and treated by experts.

Austistic individuals are reluctant to change and function better with a regular repetitive routine. Most of their routines are self developed such as how they stand or move. Most of them will become agitated or confused if a change is forced upon them. Taking into consideration how change affects the autistic person is an important factor in treating this condition. We’ve covered only some of the more common symptoms of autism. The degree of expression is dependent on the seriousness of the affliction in any particular individual. If you believe you child may have autism, then the sooner a diagnosis is made the sooner treatment can begin.
